9. INITIATIVE REFORM
>>> The House passed by a 48-18 vote a major initiative reform bill which
>>> now goes on to the Senate. I'm presenting a bill to State Affairs
>>> which calls for the establishment of a Citizen Review Committee to
>>> examine each initiative after the initiative qualifies for the ballot.
>>> Details of this bill are outlined in the previous in last week's
>>> report.
>>>
>>> Rep. Miller and I voted for the Initiative Reform Bill sponsored by
>>> Rep. Mark Stubbs. There are elements of it that I liked.
Visionaries:
My opinion probably doesn't count for much since I'm no
longer a resident of Idaho. But I hope you will continue to press
your Reps. Miller and Trail for an explanation of their vote
on this issue.
Please ask them precisely what is wrong with the present
system and to cite specific examples.
One question to ask them: At a time when the people's
trust in government is at an all time low and when it is clear
that government cannot reform itself, why would government
concsiously weaken the power of the people to enact
legislation? Perhaps the answer is self-evident...
