Marc's comments are insightful. He is right. It is the
political kiss of death to be seen as being an advocate of controlling
growth. The exeception is when conditions get so dire that people
are forced to deal with the problem. That is the tragedy of the
American psyche.
I have resolved to never again apologize for showing compassion
for non-human animals. The same applies to controlling growth. There
is no need to apologize for wanting a quality lifestyle based on
growth limits. My hope is that someday we can talk about limits
without being on the defensive. European communities crossed
the cognitive threshold about growth long ago. It seems that we
in America are hell bent are destroying the landscape before
reaching the same point in history.
