Gregg Easterbrook is an internationally acclaimed author and an
environmental optimist.
His recent book, "A Moment on the Earth: The Coming Age of Environmental
Optimism," was published by Viking Press in 1995. Its primary themes are:
that nature, far from being in decline, is robust and resilient; that
pollution trends in the western world are declining; and that all current
environmental problems are genuine but exaggerated.
He earned his Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University
and his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science is from Colorado College.
Easterbrook is a contributing editor for The Atlantic Monthly and The
Washington Monthly, and has written extensively for The New York Times
Magazine, USA Weekend, and The Los Angeles Times, The New Yorker, The
Washington Post, and The New Republic. He a two-time winner of the
Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, and recently was designated as a
Fulbright Distinguished Fellow in
the Environment.
The Trillium Corp. has provided the funding for a new sustainable
development interdisciplinary program at WSU. It will integrate economic,
environmental, and cultural aspects in the study of world development. The
program will be one of the first in the nation to provide research and
educational opportunities in the broad field of sustainable development.
The Trillium Corp. is sponsoring Easterbrook's address.
