Fifty dead bear cubs. That's what we have in Idaho every year because
the Idaho Fish and Game Department allows a spring hunt for bear. The
mother bears are killed and 50 cubs are orphaned and die.
That was the estimate given last night at the public meeting
about the Idaho black bear initiative by Idaho Fish and Game biologist
Steve Nadeau.
For those who want to learn more about the initiative (which
would end the spring hunt as well as baiting and hounding for bears),
come to the next meeting--on Thurs April 25, 7pm, UI Forestry Building
ROom 10. Speaker will be TOm Beck, COlorado Division of Wildlife bear
biologist who will discuss the passage of an identical initiative in
Colorado in 1992.
