We really do need an accessible, comprehensive community calendar.
Wednesday evening, February 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the Administration Building
Auditorium, the University of Idaho is sponsoring the program
"Entangled Lives: Facing Our Slaveholding Past" with Dr. Ann Neel and Ms.
Pam Smith. Dr. Neel is a historical sociologist at the University of
Puget Sound whose scholarly work is focused on the social relations
between slaveholding women and slave women in "Little Dixie," Missouri.
Ms. Smith is a political communications consultant, Jesse Jackson's
former communications director for his 1988 presidental
bid. Each of these women engages in genealogical research,
and are descendants of Missouri slaveholders and slaves, respectively.
In their first public address together, Neel and Smith discuss the
startling connections between their families, how they discovered
one another, and the signficance of their work and friendship.
Although I will be at "Entangled Lives", I will review the comprehensive
plan that Dale has posted, and hope to comment in writing...unless the
P & Z changes its public hearing.
Community calendar, anyone?
