Steve, I think what makes me most cynical about government is when I feel
that a lot is going on behind closed doors, with special interests, that
is actually public business. I understand the need for privacy at times,
but ultimately the public should know about public business. Too much
secrecy only leads to rumors, suspicion, and discontent.

I appreciate learning the who, what, where of the EDC through your
efforts. I personally don't agree that just having elected reps on
the EDC and public meetings is enough. I think additional publicity
efforts and attempts at public input/education are needed. Also, if
my main route of representation is through the EDC members, I feel it is
all the more important that I know who those people are, so I can voice
my opinion to my representatives.

Getting public information from this listserv is one of the reasons I am
on it. I think public information about the EDC is relevant and
appreciate your efforts. I think electronic discussions such as this are
a new format that take some adjustment so perhaps that is why there was
some discomfort. But this is just another information medium, like
newspaper, newsletters, etc.
