Last week I reported the election results for the Moscow City Council
elections. The number I reported for the number of registered voters
(15,102) came off of the computer printout for the returns. That number is
*incorrect* as a count of Moscow voters. That number includes some county
residents that are in precincts that overlap with city boundaries. The
actual number of Moscow registered voters within the city limits is 12,945
according to City Clerk, Elaine Russell who corrected the figures on the
computer printout. Sorry for the confusion. The corrected voter turnout
is therefore 18.9%, not 16.2% (still a low turnout). So to correct the
historical figures reported last Wednesday:
Year Voters Registered Percentage
1987 2,104 10,705 19.7%
1989 2,039 11,022 18.5%
1991 3,086 10,944 28.2%
1993 3,737 12,500 29.9%
1995 2,445 12,945 18.9%
Not reported earlier, there was one write-in vote cast for Ken Nagy!!
