The American Promise -- episode 3

Did anyone watch the 3rd episode of the American Promise series?

A couple of ideas that I liked:

* Portland's yellow-bike program for free non-motorized transporatation.
I especially liked the way young people were involved in repairing bikes
before they were put out for use. Could Dave Peckham's bike-repair clinic
be expanded to involve more people?

* Putting proponents and opponents of a dam on the American River in
California together in a raft to float down the river, and try to find
common ground in the debate over damming the river. At the end, they
agreed to find a process that everyone could be comfortable with.

>From the second episode, I liked the Santa Cruz students who developed
a system of hand signals for expediting discussions... The sequence
moved so quickly, I didn't understand all the symbols, but it looked
like it might be useful. Did anyone jot down the different gestures
and what they mean?

thanks,
Kenton
