Gary Presol asked me, in my capacity as chairman of the Sixth STreet Bike/
Pedestrian Path Committee, to invite bicycle and pedestrian advocates to the
next meeting of the South Couplet Committee:
*Tuesday, June 20
*8 a.m.
*Business INcubator, Main and Sweet Avenue
The couplet connectors are designed to replace the two sets of 90-degree
turns at 8th and Washington and 8th and Jackson with a 45-degree angle
section similar to those at Washington and A, and Jackson and C at the
north end.
I have not seen the latest design, but I understand it has been scaled back
considerably to save money. (One of the earlier concepts had a bike/ped
tunnel going under the intersection to connect the Troy Highway to Sweet
Avenue.) Gary presol has the plan at City Hall annex if anyone would like
to review it before the meeting. Bob Colvin, administrator of Gritman
Hospital, is the chair of the South Couplet Committee.
If anyone on this list is interested in attending, please let me know --
we want to have good representation but we don't want to overwhelm the
committee.
Thanks, KENTON
