A reminder: The Palouse Water Summit wil take place beginning this
Friday, March 3 at the UI North Campus Center (formerly Cavanaugh's),
starting at 8:00 A.M. We will find out what is known about our water
supply, and what is not known. We will take an objective look at
increasing water consumption, and decreasing water levels (in some
places). Are decreasing water levels a problem, or is the system moving
toward a sustainable equilibrium. We will look at water conservation
efforts, water conservation measures, and the economics of water demand.
The goal of the meeting will be to determine if we are doing all that we
can to steward our water supply, and if not, what more should be done. On
Saturday, March 4 the Palouse Water Summit will move to the Palouse
Empire Mall for displays and exhibits about water issues, water
conservation, and more. Find out how a water meter works, and trace
Moscow's water distribution system from well to faucet to Paradise
Creek. Pump your own real live working ground water models (and a new
surface water model); remove food color contamination. Find out about
well construction and local contamination sites.
Also, the March PMWRC meeting that was scheduled for March 9 (in Kenton's
schedule of upcoming events) has been moved to March 16. The committee
will develop a 1995 workplan on the basis of Water Summit discussions.
