It may surprise some of you to know that I think the Internet and the
20:20 listerver are great. They are great TOOLS. I think the
listserver and e-mail are a great way for people with common intersts to
share ideas and information about what goes on in our communities.
There are also many other tools for communication amopng people in a
community, and different tools will reach different people. What I
don't want to see is for the listserver group to BE Moscow Vision
20:20. Vision 20:20 stands for public participation, for the widest
possible public participation in community decisionmaking, and in fact,
we frequently urge our elected officials and local volunteer boards to
incorporate more public decision makeing in their deliberations. I
think we need to exemplify inclusiveness.
Moscow Vision 20:20 is a very young organization. What started as a
group of 3 or 4 people with an idea, has caught on, to some extent, and
now we are a somewhat larger group begining to define ourselves more
formally. We have reiterated our mission, and outlined our goals and
activities for the next year. Now I think we need to talk about who our
target participants are, as well as our taerget audience, if that's
different. When we have consensus on whom we want to reach out to and
bring in, then I think we will be able to tell what communication tools
to use. Surely the Internet will be one, but equally surely, not the
only one.
