Rennaisance Fair Committee
Moscow, Idaho 83843
Dear Committee,
I am writing in regards to the recent decision by the Moscow City Council
Administrative Committee to limit amplified music in City Parks. As one of
the vendors at of popular festival, we felt that it was important for us to
inform you of the difficult position in which this decision places us.
PCEI has participated in the fair for many years now serving a variety of
foods from locally produced falafel to burritos and deserts. We have
purchased many of our supplies at local sources. In turn, we have put the
thousands of dollars raised at this event back into the community in the
form of stream restoration activities and youth education.
Although we would like to continue to participate in this and future fairs,
we feel that if this ruling is enforced it may not be economically feasible
for us to participate in the fair. Our concern is that music limited by
such a short time (and possibly volume) will result in fewer people
turning out to the event for a shorter period of time. Typically, the
first day is spent covering our costs, and we turn a profit on the second
day. Considering our fixed costs, we fear that a shorter event will only
allow us to break even.
Therefore, until further notice of this City Council decision, PCEI will
suspend all activities to prepare for this fair. If the decision stands,
it is likely we will not participate. We apologize for any inconvenience
our position puts you in.
Sincerely,
Thomas C. Lamar
Executive Director, PCEI
