The Moscow Historic Preservation Commission had these comments about the
Community Center in a proposed policy on building use adopted last week:

"We support proposals to relocate remaining city hall functions to the building
(old post office) if community center activities can be adequately accommodate
d in another central location....

"The community center space was originally designed as a workspace and could be
rehabilitated to accommodate the needs of city employees. If the spatial quali
ties of high ceilings, openness and access to daylight is retained through
sensitive design, we believe the space could function as a successful office or
drafting area for city employees without compromising the building's historic
qualities."

The Friends of the 1912 Moscow High School/Whitowrth Building will meet
at 4:30 p.m. this Thursday (Feb. 9) at the Latah Historical Society's offices
at 2nd and Adams to discuss implications of moving the community center and
county offices to the Whitworth Building. Everyone is invited.
