At our Jan 10 meeting I said that I would contact Linda Pall about the
conference she was organizing on design to further community (or whatever).
I did finally catch up with her.
She said that she has "dropped the ball" regarding the
conference. Meaning nothing has been done. She is vague about what the
conference would be, but in essence would focus on Moscow and its future
from either a design or a planning perspective, with the goal of
provoking thought on how to best retain a sense of community here.
She is now awaiting suggestions from Gifford Pierce (UI
architecture faculty?) She welcomes 2020 support and all.....
She brought up 2 other topics, that she said could use the
attention of a group of groovy folks such as ourselves:
1. The recent contraversy over the showing of The Wall at Moscow
High School indicates to her both lack of depth on the school board (we
need good candidates to run for open board seats, she says) and a
conservative core of parents who aren't going to give up/
2. Linear park task force is nearing a public invovlement phase.
She suggested I call Amanda Arnold (who was hired by Randy Rice of Moscow
parks to be task force staff). Which results in the following
conversation with Amanda that I had yesterday-----

Amanda Arnold (home office 509-332-1739) She says the task force is now
preparing for 2 public meetings in Moscow (end of March and end of April)
to create specific proposals for parks and grant requests.
She welcomes 2020 input and assistance, either at the meetings or
in preparation for the meetings.
A representative of the National Park Service from Seattle is
coming to Moscow soon to help plan the meetings. I told her 2020 may
decide to be involved at that level. She said good.
I will not be able to be at the next 2020 meeting (California
sunshine beckons). Perhaps this should be an agenda item. I for one
would like to have us contact Amanda and get involved, at the meeting
planning stage if possible.
She seems very open to having 2020 be directly involved in this.
I was also wondering if we could be involved from the perspective
of building public interest in linear parks by a contest or game.
Perhaps a felt board kind of thing like Nils put together for the Moscow
shcool board/PCEI project.
