Visionaries: Jim Smith from Deary asked for some more specifics on the
Tax Reform Plan
that Rep. Andersen and I are proposing. Here are some more details.
>
>Current Sales Tax Collections $800,000,000
>Loss by reducing to 4% - 160,000,000
>Gain from Removing Certain
> Sales Tax Exemptions 245,447,200
>Gain from removing Certain
> Income Tax Exemptions 45,705,000
>
>Net Gain to State Coffers $131,152,200
>
>The primary exemptions eliminated would be the investment tax credit,
>trade in value, utility
>sales, transportation services, professional services, and business
>services. There is approximately
>$920 million in exemptions and credits granted each year. We would not
>touch the exemption
>for the medical area under professional services recognizing the fact of
>escalating medical costs.
Approximately 70 percent of exemptions would be left untouched.
>
>I hope this helps.
