Invitation to downtown selection process

Dear Vision2020 member,

The Community/Downtown Revitalization Committee is in the process of
selecting a firm to help with a downtown planning initiative which is just
beginning. This is a significant planning project, the first to concentrate
on the downtown area as a whole, in over 20 years. It is jointly sponsored
by the Latah Economic Development Council, the Chamber of Commerce, the
University of Idaho, and the City of Moscow, with funding for the planning
provided by the University and the City.

Nine consulting firms have submitted proposals outlining their
qualifications for assisting the community during this planning process, and
the field has been narrowed to four, each of whom will be presenting on
February 9th, in the City Council Chambers, on the 2nd floor of City Hall.

This note is to invite you to participate in and/or observe the selection
process. It will be an all-day affair, beginning at 8am and not ending
until 9pm. Although the selection committee will make the final decision,
there will be opportunities for questions and for input into the selection
process. You may attend all or only part of the day and/or evening.

From 8am until 5pm, there will be presentations by each of the four
finalists followed by a question and answer period for each. The
presentations are scheduled to begin at 8am, 10am, 1pm, and 3pm.

Each of the four presentations will last approximately 40 minutes, followed
by questions from the selection committee, then time for questions from the
community audience. Each 40 minute presentation will include an interactive
component, designed to demonstrate how the consulting firm will work with
the community if it is chosen for the planning project.

After a break for dinner, the screening committee will be evaluating and
making the final selection, between 7pm and 9pm. There will be an
opportunity during the first part of the evening for community members who
have observed part or all of the finalists’ presentations earlier in the day
to provide their input.

For more information about this initiative, or for a copy of last month’s
Chamber column about the downtown project, see

Dave Potter of the Latah Economic Development Council at edc@moscow.com or

PS – Please forgive the late notice. This is only the beginning of the
process and there will be many opportunities to participate during the
coming months. Once we get going, we will also make an effort to have
public meetings in the evening or on weekends.

Dave
