Tours of 1912 Center: Sunday 8/27

In July, more than 400 people toured the 1912 Moscow High School and
learned about plans to convert it to a community center.  If you were
out of town then or missed that event, you'll have another opportunity
to see the building.

On Sunday (Aug. 27), volunteers will give tours of the 1912 Center in
conjunction with the Latah County Historical Society's family history
fair and ice cream social.  Events inside and around the McConnell House
on Adams Street will run from 1 to 4 p.m.

There will be rides in a horse-drawn wagon, a chance for children to
dress up in vintage clothing, and demonstrations of old-fashioned
crafts.  Elected officials and other local celebrities will serve ice
cream parfaits in the garden for $2.

At the 1912 Center, visitors will get a glimpse of activities planned
for the historic classroom.  While most of the interior of the old high
school building will be extensively renovated, this room will be
restored to resemble a classroom of the Progressive Era.  Period desks,
chalkboards, maps will honor the many generations of teachers and
students who worked and learned there.

In addition, representatives of the Moscow Arts Commission, Palouse
Discovery Science Center, Friendly Neighbors senior citizen group and
Friendship Hall, a center for  developmentally disabled adults, will be
on hand to describe their programs.  Representatives of the mayor's task
force will answer questions about the renovation plan.

The 1912 Center will attract visitors to Moscow, strengthen our downtown
and give citizens of all ages and backgrounds a place to gather.  Please
come on Sunday to learn more about this worthwhile effort.
