Thanks for the info. But unclear why employers have such intrusive
rights-- is it just because they paid for the item (phone or computer) or
because of the possible exposure to liability if it's misused. If the
latter, then legislation could possibly cure it. I guess I see big $$
being saved if the University was relieved of it's responsibility to check
what every student, every employee was doing on the computers- what
screensavers were being used, etc.. not to mention renewed respect for
individual rights.
There might be an added benefit; what a great selling point for future
students and prospective faculty hiring; the one university that respects
privacy and treats people as responsible adults. Talk about 'fanciful'.
Needless to say, the sliding scale of 'expectational privacy' needs some
definite re-thinking. Sounds like those expectations came from a 19th
Century business manual.....or mindset.
