OCTOBER SELECTION
Fire on the Mountain: the True Story of the South Canyon Fire
by John MacLean
MacLean takes a long, hard look at the July 3, 1994, fire at Storm King
Mountain in Colorado, where 14 firefighters, including four women, were
killed. Fire on the Mountain offers deeply moving insights into the lives
of the smoke jumpers, hot shots, and helitacks who fight forest fires and
put their own well being on the line as part of their jobs.

Copies of the book are available through any branch of the Latah County
Library District. Bookpeople of Moscow will donate 20% from the sale of
this title to the Moscow Fire Department.
The author will speak at LCSC on October 18 at 7:00 p.m. and will be in
Moscow to sign copies of his book on October 20 from 3-5 p.m. at Bookpeople.
The Book Club meets Thursday, October 24, 7:00 p.m., Moscow Public Library.
This meeting will be led by Moscow resident Stan Tate, former smoke-jumper
and author of Jumping Skyward.
The Book Club is sponsored by the Friends of the Moscow Library.
