Afghans for Afghans

Dear friends,

Afghans for Afghans is a humanitarian and educational people-to-people project that is sending hand-knit and crocheted blankets and garments to the beleaguered people of Afghanistan.  The project is sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee (a Quaker organization) and World Concern.

"Your gift of a handmade blanket will bring comfort and warmth to Afghan women, men, and children who continue to suffer from oppression, war, hunger, poverty, and sickness. Your lovingly made afghan will send a message of concern and hope to our fellow humans on the other side of the globe. Your participation is important."  (I'm quoting from their website here.)

For more information, guidelines, and free patterns, please see the program website

www.afghansforafghans.org

or email me (Melynda Huskey) directly.  Members of the Pullman-Moscow Friends Meeting are working on afghans, hats, mittens, and socks; I hope some of you will also be inspired to bring out your knitting needles and crochet hooks. The next deadline for shipping to the AFSC office in San Francisco--they handle the shipping to Afghanistan and distribution of the gifts--is November 2.

Thanks for your consideration,

Melynda Huskey
