And now for something entirely different..

I'm wondering if the Vandals have a choice about remaining in the I-A
division. According to a 9/3/02 article by Tom Dienhart of The Sporting
News (carried by MSNBC) new NCAA rules require an average home attendance of
15,000. That's attendance, not tickets sold. Does the Kibbie Dome hold
that many?

The other NCAA requirements that I-A schools must meet by 2004 include:
(1) fund a minimum of 200 scholarships across the athletic department or
spend at least $4 million on whatever number of scholarships is offered.
(2) Support at least 16 varsity sports, with a minimum of 6 for men and 8
for women.
(3) Play at least 5 home games against I-A foes.

Can the U of I meet these requirements?
Jack

Which actually few people may care about on this listserve, but what the
heck? I've noticed a couple of senders who have said Go Idaho! or Go
Vandals! in their postings. Does anyone think the Vandals should give up
their (failed) experiment at big time Division 1 football and swallow their
pride, and return to the Big Sky conference? Or should we continue to be
fodder for the Huskies and Ducks of the world (not to mention Cougars, et
al) and be a laughingstock for those that follow college football? Should
we maintain relationships with traditional rivals like Louisiana-Monroe or
maybe reestablish conference battles with Montana, Eastern Washington,
Montana State, and other Big Sky, division 1-AA teams? Teams we can
actually beat? I vote yes.....
