The city is being asked to subsidize some of the operational costs of the
1912 building.
With limitations, I would support such a move by the city. There should be,
in place, hard and fast rules that would prevent such subsidy expanding
beyond present usage, and that would allow for the city to expect a profit
from private groups that would wish to use the facility.
I would also like to see some level of expectations on cost maintenance.
For example, the exterior lighting is certainly decorative, but I see no
need for all the lights to be on unless there is a happening occurring.
Last year I saw all the exterior lights on every morning as I drove to work.
No one was in the building, it wasn't being used, but all the lights were
on.
