Chuck,
I best learn from my students by a) the questions
that they ask that I never thought of; b) by the insights that they provide from
the experiences they have had that I haven't; and c) from my being required to
restate my answers in various ways because one answer either wasn't clear enough
or didn't "click".
Pax,
Dale

Hi Dale,
It was meant as a joke-- my apologies as
well.
However, I don't learn the most from my students. While I
learn some things from my students, it would be a pretty unfair deal if they
paid me to educate me!
I always found that statement to be an
interesting one, and a statement of false humility. My father actually
corrected me on it.
When I was exiting my first marriage (about 15
years ago!) I didn't want to get a lawyer to help with the proceedings.
The old man said "pay for your ignorance-- get a lawyer." When I
protested, he told me "think about all those students trapped in your
classroom-- what do you think they're doing?"

Teachers, of all people,
should not be condescending -- we learn the most from our students.
If that wasn't clear, my
apologies.
