RE: public/guvment schools

Another point regarding the naming of government schools is that in the U.K.
what we call 'private schools' they call 'public schools'. At least that is
how I remember it being explained to me several years ago. They are named
this because they are owned and run by citizens of the public and are open
to the public at large. I forget what the 'government schools' are called.
Just 'schools' or 'state run schools', something like that.

And, IMHO, in and of itself the more accurate name of 'government school'
does not imply something of lesser quality than 'private school'. Unless
you are of the opinion that all government endeavors generate poor
results -- which would be a difficult thesis to defend.
