Don't miss the second airing of "Democracy Now" at 2:30 pm today (5/23) on
KUOI-FM (89.3). You'll hear the hilarious and inspirational speech given by
Michael Moore last month in L.A. Moore is the author of "Stupid White Men
and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of our Nation." If you can't listen
to the speech, then ask a friend to tape it for you. You won't want to miss
it.
Topics covered include:
The battle with HarperCollins Publishers regarding Moore's book (HC had
50,000 copies in a warehouse that they were going to "pulp" because they
didn't feel it was in touch with the political climate of the nation, and
wanted Moore to rewrite 50% of the book.) The book, by the way was the #1
seller on Amazon.com within one week of its release, and the publishers
couldn't print it fast enough to keep it on bookstore shelves.
Questions about the connections between the Bush family and the Bin Laden
family.
What happened when Michael Moore went to Boys State in high school. Moore's
experience was radically different than the UI students who went to Boys
State, filling themselves with patriotism (see Page 2A in the May 17 edition
of the Daily News), only to burn the rainbow-striped flag at the Gay
Straight Alliance office at the SUB. (Moore's experience involved ruffled
potato chips, Abraham Lincoln, the Elks Club, and the nightly news.)
What Moore did when 18 year olds were given the right to vote, and evidently
were allowed to run for school board elections as well!
Enjoy the broadcast!
