At the December 17th City Council Meeting, I did not object to the hiring of
a downtown coordinator per se. I just wanted the position to be under the
auspices of current organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce or the
Latah Economic Development Council. I objected to forming yet another
Downtown Association with meetings, officers, dues and by-laws.
No matter how much enthusiasm folks have for Downtown Revitalization, there
is a finite amount of time, energy and money for community action. I would
like to focus precious human resources on direct action rather than
organizational meetings.
I liked the idea of having a Visitor Center with lots of parking, with maybe
a trolley doing shuttle tours of the University and/or the downtown from
there.
Access to the downtown for shoppers and visitors would be taken care of
this way. parking problems would be alleviated.
Dufresne/Henry put alot of thought and effort into their plans. I commend
them. They could only draw up plans based on the input from the resident,
student and business surveys. If you have an opinion regarding the plans
for downtown, please fill out the survey.
They may be obtained from LEDC at the Sweet Avenue Business Incubator Building.
