Carol Ryrie Brink Nature Park

Take a stroll down the Carol Ryrie Brink Nature Park on the corner of
MountainView and Joseph with "new eyes." We use it every time we start
out on our walk (to avoid traffic on Joseph St.). The plantings that seemed so
tiny years ago have come to life this year (must be a good spring for growth).

The AmeriCorps youth have been hard at work adding hundreds of new
plantings. The covered rest stop at the west end of the park has been
completed so people can take a rest out of the sun, enjoy the park, eat a
lunch. There's a bench inside, and there are benches along the trail.

But what's new in the last couple of days are the interpretive signs along the
trail. Some explain the creek's history, some show the work being done to
stabilize the creek bank (another project of AmeriCorps workers), and others
discuss the various wildlife present in the park including reasons for the
snags and bat boxes. The signs are very professionally made and the
illustrations beautiful.

Congratulations go to those hard-working AmeriCorps youth and to PCEI for
all their hard work. So if you haven't been on that trail lately, take a meander.

On another note: Thanks for those who organized (and led) the tour of the
1912 building last Saturday--if you missed this one, try to make the next
one. It's going to be one fabulous credit to our community when it's complete!
