Nationally Renowned Political Scientist to Address UI and WSU Students

MOSCOW--Michael A. Mintrom will address students, faculty, and
community leaders at UI April 25, at 3:30 in the Whitewater room of the
Commons building and WSU’s Foley Institute Thursday April 26, at 3:30.
Mintrom’s remarks will focus on his research on school choice, and
arguments in favor of making public education more competitive.

School choice, vouchers, and charter schools have all been
discussed as potential solutions to improve the quality of education in
America. Mintrom will discuss why making schools more competitive can lead
them create innovative programming. His research has also revealed however,
that competition can stifle sharing of creative solutions among competing
 schools.

Mintrom is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Michigan State
University, and has recently published articles in The Journal of Politics,
American Journal of Political Science, and State and Local Government Review.
His latest book, “Policy Entrepreneurs and School Choice” was
 published in 2000.

Mintrom’s visit is sponsored by Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society at the
 University of Idaho.
