vision2020
Re: Vision 2020 archives
The suggestion offered by Marci Schreiber about supporting the continuation of
Vision 2020 with financial donations certainly indicates that V2020 is serving a
respected and valued role in this community. That's great!
Speaking as a Vision 2020 steering committee member, I want to explain that Vision
2020 is not interested in, or able to, accept donations. Vision 2020 does not
really, or legally, exist as an organization. No bylaws, no budget, no money.
When V2020 started, the costs of hosting this list were donated by the University
of Idaho. Several years ago, a private Internet provider here in Moscow, First
Step Internet, offered to host Vision 2020 at no charge, in perpetuity, as a
donation to the community. A wonderful and generous donation. And an arrangement
that has worked very well from the Vision 2020 perspective.
What First Step thinks of accepting donations is up to them, but for Vision 2020,
our response is "please do not give us any money, it would only corrupt the purity
of our purpose" or something to that effect. But many thanks, Marci, for the
offer.
