RE: Gas Prices Revisited
My Beloved friends,
I have not lived here that long... only 10 years. As long as I have been
here, gas in Lewiston has been at least 10 cents per gallon cheaper than
here. It is definitely an ongoing problem. I have heard excuses that it
costs more to bring gas here but I do not buy it!! The fact is that most
business will try to get away with as much as they can. They will try to
maximize their profit. This is called good business practice... right?! Like
those of us who try to buy from the cheapest source even though it will hurt
our community, these businesses do not worry about the consequences. They,
as we are, are only interested in their wallet. They could not care less if
your wallet is drained!
I do have to say, however, that I believe that gas in this country is too
cheap! We are a nation of wasteful and glutinous people. We drive huge cars
that waste gas and destroy natural resources. We, like the gas companies, do
not care that this behavior is illogical and self-destructive. We care about
our immediate pleasure and lack the foresight to see beyond our own noses.
Here, again, we see how the business is self-serving. The thriving railroad
industry (still one of the most efficient means of transportation) has
become virtually extinct due to the aggressive scheming of the auto industry
(Auto, tire, gas, etc). Free enterprise is a cool idea. However, it requires
the consumers to be more than sheep. We have been so well trained to want
the things advertised on TV that we have become sheep. We, largely, lack the
ability to resist that nice looking "hamburger" they show on TV... never
mind that most advertising is false advertising! It is evident that we are
not able to resist the fake savings and rebates that many companies give
out. It is common practice to jack the price up and then discount the
product to make it appear that you are getting a great deal. Obviously, it
works... that is why the practice is so common. Let us face it we are
largely controlled by big business. This is not freedom but the illusion
there of.
Speaking of control... anyone ever wonder why it is that every time the
Republicans want to hold on to the Whitehouse or take it back hell breaks
loose in the middle east?! Why is it that gas prices go up at the same time?
Who controls the gas prices? Anyone wonder how the hostages were released so
quickly for Regan?! Are we all asleep? Or do we figure that the world is for
us to mess with?! Who is responsible for the regime in Iran? How about
Afghanistan? Who is responsible for the Israel and Palestine conflict? Who
is fueling the animosity? Who is benefiting from it? Arms sale? Creating
demand? Corruption... here... no!!!
Your brother,
Shahab...

I have lived in Moscow since I was 12 years old. This is a long time problem
that I see never being addressed by the powers that be. We always fill our
tank
up when we are out of town.
