Notice the number of empty storefronts at the mall? It seems to me that the rent increases which resulted in those empty spaces were caused by the cost of the ill advised and ugly exterior remodeling and unneccessary interior floor replacement. I think it unlikely that the current managment will cease its program to remove the trees along the highway and are merely doing those plantings to help them do that. I hope that Moscow will not let them get away with it. They have clearly made several disastrous managment decisions, and should be replaced. The mall is often short parking space as it is, and the merchants who remain will likely suffer more as a result of having to pay for this additional project.

My understanding is that the mall is planting trees/bushes in those new spaces.  I guess they noticed that parking lot trees actually encourage people to stop and consume.  But my cynical side causes me to note that they are looking for a positive PR move to counter the bad publicity they got from their effort to cut the trees along the public right-of-way there.  BL
