Nixon Memorial Run tomorrow
In keeping with its respect for American history and tradition, the
informal UI noon running group (Team DeMoura) will once again commemorate
the resignation of Richard Nixon by holding its 25th annual Nixon Memorial
Run tomorrow, Aug. 9. The run is two-to-three miles long (no one has
actually bothered to measure it) and the public is invited to take part.
The run starts at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Gym, crosses a culvert, or
watergate, passes the university compost heap (Haldeman Hill), and goes
through a gap into some trees (Rosemary Woods) for 16 minutes. Runners
must straddle some fences and make several turns to the right. Bull dung
becomes increasingly bothersome; expletives are encouraged. The run is
crooked and mostly downhill with some uphill struggles at the end. It's
quite unpleasant and everyone's glad when it's over.
All runners and walkers are welcome. No entry fee; bribes are optional.
