Recent resignation of Adventure Club Director

I just wanted to share this letter that I wrote to the school board with you
all.

To the Moscow School District School Board:

This letter is regarding the recent resignation of Ms. Julie Brodock from
her position as director of Adventure Club, the after school child care
program. As a working Moscow parent, I appreciate the commitment on the part
of the District to provide affordable after-school child care. However, I am
concerned that we are losing as valuable an asset as Ms. Brodock.

During her tenure, Ms. Brodock has transformed Adventure Club from what was
essentially a safe warehouse for children to an enriched environment with
activities and special programs and structure for the children. She has been
extremely successful at obtaining outside funding for special programs, and
under her the creative talents of the Adventure Club staff have blossomed.
She has attracted many volunteers to aid in the program, and has been
resourceful in gathering materials for the children's projects. Her
management style includes interaction with the children and staff on a daily
basis at all of the Adventure Club sites, and she knows all of the Adventure
Club parents by name. All of this has resulted in a large increase in the
popularity of this program: when Julie started, there was no restriction on
placing children in Adventure Club; now there is a waiting list that would
fill the number of existing places!

Certainly it would be hard to hold someone with Julie Brodock's talents for
very long on the minimal salary a child care program could afford. However,
I am afraid that her leaving has been spurred prematurely by a lack of
support on the part of school administrators. The logical conclusion is that
these administrators have no commitment to this program, which is so
essential for the well-being of the children of Moscow's working families. I
sincerely hope that Julie's replacement will be afforded better treatment.

Sincerely,

Margaret Davis
