This Thursday, May 18, the Forest Service is holding an informational
meeting in Moscow at the Latah County Fairgrounds in the Exhibit Building
from 4-8 pm.
The subject is the future of the inventoried roadless areas - wild forests -
on our National Forests across the country. The Forest Service was going to
protect them. However, now the preferred alternative in the Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) only calls for no new roads in these
roadless areas. Logging, mining, and off-road-vehicles will be allowed in
these roadless areas and Alaska's Tongass National Forest has been exempt
from protection under this statement.
Please come and ask good questions.
