I went to see Carousel last night and I really enjoyed myself. It was
a pleasant diversion for a few hours. I'd like to really compliment
the costume crew for adding a lot to the production. All of the players
were really quite good, with exceptional performances turned in by Mr
Croston, Ms Merrick, Mr Meyer and Ms Scott. Ms Merrick and Mr Meyer
really had excellent projection.
The orchestra was spot on, too, playing at the right volume not to
overwhelm the small hall at Moscow High School. I assume the first
violin did the solo work (I couldn't see from where I was) and it was
superb.
There were really only two rough spots in the whole evening, both of
them out of the control of MCT: People leaving and entering during the
play (with the accordant clunking of the doors) and the lack of
people! The community really needs to get out and support MCT, I think
there were more players and stagehands and the like than people in the
seats. I'd also suggest perhaps taping over the catches on the doors
(or locking them open if they support it) so that when people do enter
or exit during the show it will be much quieter.
The only (minor) issue with the production itself is one of personal
taste: with such a small hall and a cast with such good vocal
projection I wouldn't have mic'd the cast. However, if the hall was
full perhaps the PA system would have been needed. I don't know.
There are three performances remaining, April 28 at 1930 and April 29
at 1400 and again at 1930. Let's get out there and support MCT, eh?
