Have you signed the petition? The Citizens to Appoint Aaron Ament community
group is circulating a petition in Moscow urging Mayor Marshall Comstock to
appoint Aaron Ament to the Moscow City Council to replace Tony Johnson who
plans to resign soon.
Ament was a candidate for Council in the November 1999 election and received
the fourth largest total vote. The top three candidates (Mike Thomason,
Jack Hill, and Steve Busch) were elected to the Council. Ament received
about 40 percent of the vote.
The group supports open and democratic government in Moscow, and believes
Aaron Ament is the qualified candidate because of his demonstrated support
from the voters, long involvement in community activities, and his
willingness to be involved in the political process.
If you agree, and wish to sign the petition, copies are available at
BookPeople, the Moscow Food Coop, and the Moscow Wine Company, and from
coordinators Mike Curley at 882-3536 or <curley@turbonet.com>, and Evan
Holmes, at 883-4918.
The group plans to send volunteers door-to-door in selected Moscow
neighborhoods on Saturday, March 25. If you wish to volunteer to gather
signatures, please meet at the front doors of the Moscow Food Co-op, 221
East Third, between 10 am and noon on the 25th. Volunteers will be
assigned a specific area for an hour-long commitment.
