Slow Drivers causing problems...Hmmm...True but...
How about STOPPED drivers? ...Please forgive me as I rant.
In the case of Zeitler Road you stop in the middle of the highway to wait
for traffic while some bozo bombs up in back of you and hits you
because.....they are not paying attention or conditions are bad....and there
is NO escapement....none....nada...zippo.
You get three choices to make real fast.Hit a steep bank...fall in a deep
hole, have your self a head on...or hit the car in front of you.
A 16 year old Moscow kid just trying to go home was smacked up pretty good
by this deal...he is my friend...and I am ticked off at the State.
There are at least 5 teen agers on that road that make that same maneuver
every day...the act of stopping in the highway.
Last week some one passed my brother on the right and just squeaked by.
Sure the drivers tend to be at fault....but the simple mechanics of this
particular patch make it plain that a turn out or escape route is
necessary...The state holds responsibility for doing what the can with
regard to safety as a #1 cause...in my opinion.
Did raising the speed limit just before the turn off help or make it safer?
The county road dist. made an offer some years ago to do their part to
reconstruct our part of that section if the State would do theirs....At
least our local road folks give a care and recognize need....they have done
their part as far as I can tell.
The State knows its going to get a new road (one that they will put right
next to that poor kids house)so in my opinion they are just going to let it
ride....As they have for years.
Shame on them.
Dave
