My dear friends,
in the recent past we have had the unpleasant
experience of reading rather offensive messages going back and forth through
this medium. I would like to make some observations if I
may.
I have been advocating that people should express
themselves freely and not "hide" the true thoughts and views they have. the
discussion going on about school prayer and Columbine is a perfect example. We
have to respect the fact that some of the friends may be offended by statements
made by others in this setting. I also think we need to express ourselves
thoughtfully instead of in anger. I would like to see us discussing issues
and expressing our opinion but not insult each others belief or
opinion.
You may or may not believe in God... I will respect
you the same; I do not think it is appropriate to belittle those who do or those
who don't. The fact is that neither side can "prove" their point so it becomes a
mute point. I think we need to avoid ridiculing people for their
belief. I think we need to avoid insulting each other. I think we need
to avoid threatening each other.
Make your points and let us discuss the issues
without anger. Respect is like freedom... it is earned; if we do not act
responsibly and treat each other with respect... we can not expect civility and
respect from others.
your brother in arms,
Shahab...
