Re: Alternative fuels?
Dearest Friends,
When I lived in Europe I saw many natural gas and Propane cars. in fact my
uncle had a Benz that was Propane powered and it worked well. I think most
Americans are afraid of it because they think it is more dangerous than the
good old liquid gas. in fact nothing could be farther from the truth. the
tanks for the Propane and natural gas are pressure tanks that are multi
layered with insulation in the middle. they have proven much more safe even
in autobahn accidents. the power is a bit less than gasoline but in most
cases not very noticeable. if you have a gutless wonder now it will probable
not do well but most cars today are over powered anyway. the efficiency is
higher and emmitions far lower than gasoline as well.
... as for the fuel cell... I am not sure if we are quite ready for that yet
although prototypes are in operation and do quite well. the question is do
you want them all over the roads?!
Your brother in arms,
Shahab...

Subject: Alternative fuels?
With regard to the dialogue on gas prices.
Is there enough comunity interest in our
area to push for some natural gas filling stations?(Not Propane)
Having some experience with it being used in local fleet service,
I know that it works very well although some power loss does occur and the
mile per gallon
ratio falls because it takes a higher fuel to air ratio to run. The
conversion can be run in
tandem with gasoline so that you can use ether one, increasing the range of
the vehicle.
In the past personal inquiries to the old WWP pretty much got the run
around.
Also after doing a net search it looks to me as though good ol CONOCO has
some
major control over this product....(Interesting I think)
Even so the state of Colorado seems to have a successful public
program.....so it can be done.
The bottom line being :
Its far less expensive than gasoline, common in our region and even though
its still a carbon
emitter, its clean burning.
Anyone else have some thoughts on this?
Any Fuel Cell buffs out there?
Dave
