For HM Researchers:  You may not have come across refs. to the recent 
USDA report on conditions in national forests and grasslands, which the 
USDA Committee of Scientists issued. Secy. Dan Glickman pulled the 
committee together, which finds that sustainability of existing biotic 
systmes is threatened, along with biodiversity. The web ref. I have is:
