Does anyone know details of why, just before the December performances, the
As I understand it, the Washington-Idaho Symphony Association has announced
that it is essentially kicking out its chorale group for at least 6 months
starting January 1, 2000. It supposedly has told them they cannot use the
group name, use any of the library materials (music they need to perform and
that was donated in part by them), cannot use the group's non-profit status
in soliciting funds, get none of the receipts from the December performances,
get none of the existing funds (I'm wondering about funds that were donated
specifically for Chorale purposes--it seems to me the Symphony will have a
little trouble justifying that postion, if it is truly what they are thinking).
This seems a rather Draconian decision. Did the Chorale group do or say
something offensive to the Symphony? In light of this decision, will the
Chorale even perform at the upcoming events? I would sure have difficulty
performing for the benefit of an organization that was kicking me out. Anyone
out there know more about the story and can verify that what I'm hearing is
true?
