Especially if the person or people who will make the decision on who
to hire would attend.

I have to report that the last time there was a meeting like this, about 7
months ago, everyone I know except John Danahy attended. (It was a
meeting to trade ideas with Roger, who didn't let on that he had this
big problem with living here and haviung to put on snow tires.)

Yeah, I don't know that many people -- there were six other people there,
and I guess I am asking why a meeting now would attract more than seven
or eight people. Because quiet desperation has set in over the state of
the press in Moscow? I don't have answers, I only have questions. In the
long run, John may have better questions than I do, but he doesn't care
more about our newspaper.

How frightfully old-fashioned that is: Saying "our" newspaper. It's an
attitude, apparently, which people can drift away from. But probably eight
people (I'm counting in John) haven't, so far.
