Public hearing on the corridor

Here is a forwarded posting about the corridor:

>It is time to speak up. The Whitman County Commissioners are holding a
>public hearing to receive feedback on the proposed ordinance to allow
>development in the Moscow/Pullman corridor.
>
>WHEN: Monday, July 26 at 7:00 PM.
>WHERE: In the auditorium of the Public Services Bldg, on the corner of
>Lake St. and Island St., in Colfax (Lake St. is one block off of Main St.
>to the west and Island St. intersects Main St. in about the middle of
>town).
>
>The Whitman County Planning Commission has recommend to the County
>Commissioners that an ordinance be passed that would open up development in
>the corridor with very few land use restrictions. Allowable uses would
>include car dealerships, jails, hotels, RV sales and service, boats sales,
>tire sales, and restaurants. In addition to harming the downtown economies
>of Pullman and Moscow, such development would encourage urban sprawl,
>damage the scenic beauty of the area and the recreational value of the Bill
>Chipman Trail, and threaten wildlife in the corridor.
>
>If you have time, a friend of mine recommends that you have the
>commissioners office mail you the latest draft of the ordinance and James
>H. Kaufman's legal review of it, by calling the commissioners' office at
>(509) 397-6200. If you call Thursday or early Friday, you could probably
>get it by Saturday if you ask them to quickly get it in the mail. I have
>not seen the legal review myself, and I make no claims to its objectivity.
>
>If you are willing to offer rides to Colfax for individuals in need from
>either Pullman or Moscow, email me back with your phone number. If you
>need a ride, email me back with your phone number as well.
>
>We have defeated this ordinance in past years, and we can win again! Or at
>least we can significantly minimize the damage. However, to do so we need
>a large attendance at the public hearing. For every person who supports
>development in the corridor, we need 5 people there who are opposed,
>particularly people from Whitman County. Individuals from outside Whitman
>County are also encourage to attend as it demonstrates a wide base of
>support.
