But the Idaho Transportation Dept. (ITD) is adamantly opposed to any
assistance for pedestrians at 8th and Jackson. As I've mentioned in a
previous email, the Moscow Bike Commission had a long talk with ITD reps
about this spot. The ITD position is that pedestrians and bicyclists
should go up to 6th or down to Hwy 8 to cross (though the configuration in
that area will change when the new couplet is done -- but the crossing
will be just as bad or worse). Not a realistic expectation for peds and
bikes, but their view on this issue works well for trucks.
And at Styner and 95, ITD says 1) it's a bad place for a light -- at the
top of the hill (bad for trucks) and 2) we got a light at Sweet and that
was supposed to take care of stoplights in that area.
Please contact City Council members about these issues if you are
concerned.
