I recall Bill London saying that this was a "quotable quote" type of entry.
 Unless the WSJ was in error about Dennis Avery having said it, there would
be no cause for correction.  Kind of like if they quoted Helen C. saying
that white male humans are the most endangered species, they would probably
not post a correction (even though white male humans are probably the most
widely dispersed life form on earth, going into the deepest ocean trenches
and to the top of the world's highest mountains, and everywhere in between
in numbers that wouldn't get them onto the ESL).
