Re: Fair Gas Prices?
Ken,
Every couple of years this question comes up, and every couple of years we
residents get stone walled. I remember a few years back the AG looked
into gas prices in Moscow and found no collusion. The general answer the
gas stations give is that it costs more to transport gas to here than it
does in Lewiston. I've often wondered about that since most of our gas
comes from Spokane not Lewiston. Busch & Sharpe used to use Flying J in
Spokane and I doubt that has changed.
There is a way to find out what retailers are paying for gas, and that is to
find a copy of the OPIS and look at the Pad 4 price. I don't remember what
it (OPIS) stands for, but I do know that is the guide book for wholesale
gas prices.
When ever I have asked dealers and retailers I get the same responses you
did. Most recently gas in Troy was 8 cents cheaper than in Moscow, now I'm
sure it costs less to move gas into Moscow than to Troy.
As far as Go Farther Gas on Mountain View, I would expect it to be closing
soon after the first of the year because of the EPA and it's underground
tank regulations. I know for a fact that the tanks don't comply.
Maybe Steve BUsch, of BUsch Distributors, or Ted Sharpe of Sharpe Oil will
read these messages and respond. But I wouldn;t hold my breath. Does the
UI have a copy of a recent OPIS. Anyone know?
