Re: DDHH (fwd)--Comment
I support this expression of universal intent to honor each individual's
right to freedom from oppression, which can become both a moral
declaration and a moral commitment to treat each other civilly and w/o
prejudice or aggression. It might help to know that, according to
information given me by the student's close relative, a female college
student in Coeur d'Alene was recently confronted at her dorm door by two
hooded males carrying a shotgun, who threatened her life. Apparently the
thugs learned that she had signed a human rights petition last summer.
Their means of dealing with such "idiots" is through violent physical
force and threats. The student and her room mate have "escaped" to an
uncle's home in the city until they feel secure. The police were called,
but in the absence of any criminal evidence or identification of the
thugs (KKK in appearance), no action could be taken. The community at
large ought to respond to this situation by assisting in crime watch
surveillance, community forums to unmask this group, and increased public
awareness of such deviancy from lawful behaviors. Everyone has an equal
right to personal and communty security.
