Re: Character That Matters?
I will post this under the subject of "Character that matters" even though I
don't wish to respond in detail to any of the posts on this topic. But here
I stand, proud to have served as Latah County Democratic Party campaign
coordinator in 1992, proud to have supported Bill Clinton in his election
and re-election bids, a believer of "Putting People First," and a person who
was thrilled to travel to Spokane just to see Bill Clinton in person during
the 1992 campaign. If ever there was a political candidate who caught my
imagination, it was Bill Clinton.
Does character matter? Absolutely. So is it my turn to (a) stonewall, or
(b) establish that both R's and D's -- Republicans and Democrats -- are
equally likely to demonstrate reprehensible behavior? [YaYaDaYaYa -- your
guy/gal is equally as sleazy.] I hope not.
So here I stand, truly disappointed by the utterly stupid and indefensible
behavior of my champion.
The champion of MY ideas and beliefs. And I can distinquish these. He was
(and will perhaps continue to be) the champion of many of the principles and
political causes that I support. My political and social beliefs will not
change regardless of the depth of Bill Clinton's failure. And I won't now
join the GOP. I simply don't believe that his personal failures are the
result of his political orientation.
But damn, I wish it was Newt Gingrich, not Bill Clinton, who put himself in
this untenable position.
peace,
Lou
