I have also been thinking more about the archives issue. One important
value of the archives is that it is a true record of what each of us posts
to the list. Someone can take any post to this list and edit it so that it
looks like something completely different was said. There may be value in
having one true record that has not been altered in any way, although
whether everyone needs to have access to this is another story.
