I support the steering committees proposal.  

I believe people should be willing to attach their name to anything they
post.  I attach zero credibility to anonymous postings, and often delete
them without reading them.  The subscription process should eliminate most
of the spam.  

I'm reluctant to see the archives moderated, but given what we've been told
by FSR, we may not have much choice.  I also agree with Dale, that with the
subscription rule the archives may not be a problem.
